Rock legend starts movie podcast

Justin Pierre’s lifelong dream was to become a film director. Unfortunately, he got sidetracked being a rockstar for the last 17 years.

The recently "retired" lead singer of the rock band Motion City Soundtrack isn’t overly disappointed with his band’s recent hiatus though. If anything, he is inspired and excited to have free time to get back to making movies again and work on his new movie podcast The Junkshow Cinema.

“MY FUTURE GOAL IS TO KEEP CREATING COOL STUFF WITH MY FRIENDS, BUT IN A FORMAT WHERE I DON'T HAVE TO BE ON TOUR ALL THE TIME.”

Mr. Pierre has directed several short films including "Na Zodrov ‘Ya" Starring Patrick Stump, lead singer of the band Fall Out Boy and his music videos for Limbeck & Sing It Loud have a combined 3.3 million views on youtube.

In late 2014 Justin teamed up to launch the weekly movie podcast with longtime filmmaking collaborator Shane Nelson who has made several music videos for Motion City Soundtrack and Justin Pierre’s side project The Farewell Continental Band.

“When Justin calls you it’s a whirlwind of self deprecation and ½ baked ideas but I usually say yes because we always have so much fun. I said I would do it if we could bring in writer/director Justin Staggs.”

Justin Staggs is a writer on the ABC hit show In An Instant 20/20 and has penned over 10 feature screenplays and has directed over 50 music videos. (Foo Fighters, NOFX, Against Me!)

“Motion City rejected all my ideas for music videos. So I guess this was the only way I could work with the mad genius Justin Pierre.”

The podcast will hit 100 episodes this summer and centers on the 3 friends discussing their lives, filmmaking and reviewing movies. They also interview guests who must discuss their top 10 all time favorite movies. A few guests include Sports Writer Howard Sinker, Rapper Sean Anonymous, Producer/Director Todd Cobery & Director Dan Huiting)

“It’s been a really fun project. I’m just glad I get to keep doing cool things with my friends for a living.”

On April 6th at 7pm the Sound Unseen Film Festival will host An Evening of Short Films from the Junkshow Cinema & live podcast with Q&A. Tickets $10 or 8$ in advance. You can listen to the podcast on iTunes or www.junkshowcinema.com
